A conversation with two great musicians about their musical journeys and their collaboration on two albums “Transparent Water” and “Suba”.
Guests:
Senegalese korafola; Séckou Keita, is a scion of the royal house of Keita. He is a direct descendant of SOUNDIATA KEITA; founder and first ruler of the united Mali Empire in 1235. Strictly speaking, because of this lineage, he is not supposed to be a musician. However, his path toward music was facilitated through his maternal line. His mother is a dièli from the house of CISSOKHO. Séckou is not only known for his great dexterity on the kora but he is also renowned for his fine voice as well.
Omar Sosa is a jazz pianist who studied percussion at two legendary Cuban institutions: the Escuela Nacional de Musica and the Instituto Superior de Arte. His approach to piano is definitely as a percussive as well as a melodic instrument. He has recorded more than 20 albums and from these recordings, one would be right to conclude that Omar delights in bending genres, and in collaborating with a diverse range of musicians.
