With this drawing I was trying to directly translate the melody of “Take the A Train” into a line drawing. The pattern that represents the repeated melody in the song is found throughout the upper half of the drawing, the drumbeat in some of the lowest lines, and the crazy other stuff reflects the commotion and bustle the horns try to convey in solos about riding the train.

Who is Meera Dugal?

Meera Dugal is a rising junior at New York University pursuing her interests in anthropology, studio art, and African expressive cultures. Born and raised in South Carolina, she has been painting and drawing her whole life and discovered her insatiable passion for jazz after coming to New York. She hopes to someday work in the field of artistic and musical outreach.
